DWA supported the World Bank in the preparation of a National Port Strategy for Malaysia. The Malaysian Government sought to identify the key policy challenges in relation to the development of a National Ports Strategy. The study undertook a review of the major ports and their role within Malaysia through broad consultation with port users and a review of port statistics on demand and productivity. Key issues related to landside connectivity, marine access and competition were considered in order to develop a thorough analytical basis for providing strategic policy advice for the National development of a port system, which is being used to guide the identification and implementation of actions, developments and measures to improve and develop Malaysia’s maritime ports.
